Farm Credit Welcomes Hurlebaus as Credit Trainee

Farm Credit of the Virginias (FCV), a lending cooperative that serves Virginia, West Virginia and western Maryland, announced that Cal Hurlebaus, a prior intern with the Association, has assumed the role of credit trainee at the Verona Operations Center.

Hurlebaus is originally from Fairfax County, Va. and now resides in Harrisonburg, Va. He developed a passion for agriculture at a young age while spending time on his grandfather’s beef cattle operation in Smyth County, Va. In his youth, he was involved with Boy Scouts and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Hurlebaus attended Virginia Tech and earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Management, along with a minor in Applied Agricultural Economics, in May 2023. While at Virginia Tech, Hurlebaus was a member of the bass fishing team.

Hurlebaus served as an information technology and lending intern in the Roanoke branch during the summer of 2022, so he joins the Association with a knowledge of the Farm Credit system. He had the opportunity to participate in the Virginia Governor’s Fellows Program this summer, working under Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry, Matt Lohr.

Hurlebaus brings experience, passion and a willingness to learn to his new role with FCV. “As a new employee, I am eager to learn all aspects of Farm Credit’s services and functions, and to offer some perspective on important state-level policies impacting agriculture gleaned from my fellowship this summer,” said Hurlebaus regarding his position. “I am most excited to learn more about the full loan underwriting process and how the credit analyst role fits into the lifecycle of a loan. I am also thrilled to get to know all of the great people working here at FCV, both on my team and in other departments!"

Jill Richter, Credit Manager, said, “We welcome Cal back to Farm Credit and to our credit team. We look forward to working with Cal in his new role, as well as utilizing the information and experiences he brings from his fellowship earlier this summer.”

In his spare time, Hurlebaus enjoys golfing, hunting, fishing, playing cornhole, reading and spending time with friends and family.
